Dedicated ASHA Worker Ensures Polio Vaccination in Manipur

A Remarkable Journey for Health

Imphal, Oct 16: Maidiniliu Prinmai, an ASHA worker from Atangkhullen (Nenluang) Liangmai in the Tamenglong district, undertook an impressive eight-hour trek through challenging hilly terrain to deliver polio vaccines to children in her community.

The Manipur Raj Bhavan recognized Maidiniliu's dedication by posting two of her photos on X, stating, “With 13 years of unwavering service, ASHA worker Meidinliu (51) walked for 8 hours to reach Attangkhunou and Attangkhullen villages as part of the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) Programme, ensuring essential health services and medicines are accessible to all. We salute her commitment and spirit of service!”

This past Sunday marked the launch of the State-level Polio Sub-National Immunization Day 2025 in the capital of Manipur, aiming to vaccinate children aged 0 to 5 years with the oral polio vaccine, halt the circulation of wild poliovirus, maintain immunization efforts, and monitor cases of acute flaccid paralysis.

The immunization initiative this year is set to reach approximately 316,671 children through 3,167 vaccination booths established throughout Manipur. A total of 633 supervisors and 15,833 vaccine administrators have been appointed for this important task.

Despite India being declared polio-free, ongoing immunization is vital, especially as neighboring countries continue to report polio cases.

The last recorded polio case in India was in Kolkata in 2011.
